Croton's Road repair undecided

The repair of Croton's road is as yet undecided, with Waimarino councillors unsure whether it is worthwhile spending money on the road.

Flood damage has meant the road is open as a restricted highway. A rough estimate for the repair of the road is $15,000 with a possible subsidy of 60

per cent available. The works committee heard that there were property owners past the wash out who wanted the road repaired. The owners had bought the property

before the damage and had plans which could mean the road would need repairing. Councillor Griffiths suggested the council wait for a subsidy before proceeding with the work. District Engineer Don Sattler said the council could do that, then delete the works from the programme if the subsidy wasn't available, or do the

work and pay for it from council funds. He said the flood damage repair was pushed to the end of the summer works programme to allow time to s e e k subsidy approval from the National Roads Board. District Manager John Murrihy suggested the decision should be made regardless of how it was to be funded.
