A few Waimarino folk may have seen a famous familiar figure, if only for fleeting moments, recently. Ex-Six Million Dollar Man actor Lee Majors was staying at the Sunbeam. He and a film crew were working on a Japanese car advertisement at Waiouru. The crew drew some interest from the New Zealand Airforce with this full sized plastic model of an American jet fighter - a group of skyhawkes flew over the set at Waiouru Airstrip several times to check it out. Why is the van parked so close? It's there to anchor the plane, which was trying to take off backwards!
