Amalgamation costs claimed
A claim has been made by the Waimarino District Council for a grant to recover some of the costs of the recent Waimarino amalgamation. The amount claimed at this stage is $72,204.73 and includes such expenses as; a consultant's report ($8604.43), filing system ($10,183.12), Mayoral chain ($1170), Elections ($6,310), Stationery ($12,703.82), District Manager Designate's
salary (16/11/87 to 31/3/88, $16,760) and appointment and removal costs ($2723.43), and a standard grant ($5000). The claim was forwarded to the Internal Affairs department under the incentive grants scheme, which provides for councils to claim certain costs incurred as a result of amalgamating. The scheme is only available to those councils that agreed to amalgamate prior to the present round of amalgamations.
