No joy from railways

Waimarino councillors have yet again expressed their disappointment at Railways letting the Ohakune station become run-down. At their last meeting the works committee heard that Railways had not replied to the council's letters concerning the state of the station and what could be done about it. Councillor Thompson said he was sad to say it seemed Railways was looking at scrapping its passenger services. Councillor Frew exclaimed that Railways had just finished making a television advertisement in the ar£a for passenger services. Councillor Thompson then suggested approaching the Minister of Railways, Richard Prebble. A chorus of councillors suggested that this approach would be a waste of time, as he was no longer the "minister of anything".
