Sponsors help race

Sponsorship has been an important part of this year's Around the Mountains Relay, organised by the Waiouru Army Training Group. Because of the user pays system the Army is required to recover as much of the costs of such events as possible. This meant the fee per runner had to be increased from $15 to $30.. Captain Steve Wagner of the 4th Supply Company, one of the event organisers, maintains this is still good value considering it covers the associated activities such as the afterrelay dinner as well as the run itself. The main sponsor for

the event is Dominion Breweries who donated $6000 in cash and $6000 in goods, which were used as prizes. Fresh-up provided $2500 worth of drink for the runners' lunches as well as for handing

out to parched runners during the race. Nestles gave chocolate to give to race teams, and Shell gave reduced price petrol for the many support vehicles that were used on the day.
