EEL FOR BREAKFAST
I woke up and said, "I feel like going eeling." It was early in the morning and the birds were singing. I got up and tried to find something t o attract the eels. I found last night's gravy so I tipped it into an icecream container. Gravy really turns them on. I put some meat, eggs and cooked potatoes in as well. I went and got Frank and we were off. We didn't have far to go. We threw our lines in and tied them to a tree and took the container full of eel goodies about a hundred yards up the creek and tipped the scraps out. Then we went back down to where the lincs were. We sat down on the bank and watched the gravy slowly drift past. About ten minutes later the first e c 1 appeared. It was gradually moving towards the direction of Frank's line. It bit the line and it was caughi. It got a stick and flicked it out of the water. I jumped on its tail and then it was kaput. We put it in the sack and Waited patiently for another eel to emerge. A big, black thing came gently up to our lines. Then Whammo. My father had thrown a spear right through its
head. He was standing on the fence about ten metres away. He just tried to scare us but he didn't notice that he had stabbed one. He said, "come on lets... Holy Moly! Dead Eye Dick eh." "Tin Bum more like it." "Come on. Time to go in and have breakfast. We might as well eat them for breakfast." "Yeah, just what I feel like. Fresh Eel!"
