The Hemera tender allowed to be altered from $11,974.60 after it became apparent that the tender was for 12 months and not the full sixteen months of the contracts. The Waimarino District Council estimate was recalculated to remove costs of supervision and administration costs. District Manager John Murrihy told the council the estimates put forward by the council staff were required to include all costs but that administration and supervision costs would be incurred whoever won the tender. The estimate for the Raetihi rubbish collection by the council was o r i g i n a 1 1 y $18,644.90. During debate over
the recommended successful tenders Cr Ellen Gould said Craig Greenwood, who has been collecting the Ohakune rubbish u p until now, had done a good job. Mr Murrihy pointed out that his tenders for rubbish collection were up to $15,000 higher than the successful ones. Cr Griffiths said the tender for the Ohakune collection was "so far out of line" with the other tenders that he would "question the value of it." District Engineer Don Sattler said he had interviewed the tenderers, going through their tender breakdowns and asking them what equipment they intended to use and that he was satisfied the tenders recommended could carry out the work. He added that the council has the right to withdraw from the
contract if the operators do not fulfil their part of it. Cr Griffiths asked what would happen in that case. Mr Sattler said the council would have the right to hire another party to carry out the work and charge the original tenderer the difference. Cr Thompson asked if the engineer foresaw any problems with two parties working the dump, to which Mr Sattler replied that the council had the right to intervene in the case of a problem. Cr Sue asked for an assurance that the alteration of the council estimate was legal. Mr Murrihy said it was possibly a mistake to include the supervision and administration costs in the council estimate. Cr Bennett moved that the recommended tenders be accepted which was carried.
