LPG FACILITY 'SAFER'

The Hobbit Motor lodge opcrators are to be allowed to replace their existing LPG facility with a nominal one tonne tank in the grounds of the lodge. The Waimarino District Council approved the planning application to replace the facility after hearing that the single tank would be safer than the existing facility. At present liquid petroleum gas is stored in cylinders which are transported to a nearby service station for filling. The new tank would be filled from an LPG tanker direct at the Motel. Councillor Sue asked if manoeuvring in and out of the street would be a problem. The council heard that one manoeuvre would be made, on the motel site, during the unloading operation. With the application approval the council placed a condition that the installation comply in all respects with the Dangerous Goods Regulations.
