Riders meet wild horses
Six members of the Waimarino Riding Club from Ohakune joined the Waiouru members on a ride into Home Valley on Army land recently. Mr Errol Craig organised the ride and 15 riders enjoyed a day together in fine sunny weather. A leisurely nine kilometre ride each way toqk them to a vantage point, to view the Moawhango Lake, where they stopped for lunch. On the way t h e group saw, at quite close hand, xjx wild horses who stopped and stared before galloping off. This caused quite a bit of excitement for one of the ridden horses who wanted to join them. Last Wednesday evening 17 members and other interested people travelled t o Ohakune and viewed video tapes, on loan to Mrs E. Cooper, on Neil Davies' methods of breaking in, or more correctly, 'handling' young horses. All came away very impressed with what they had seen and a greater understanding of the results that can be achieved by building up the trust and confidence
of the horse towards his handler. Anyone who missed seeing this should contact Mrs Cooper as soon as possible before the videos
are returned to their owner. A Riding Club rally will be held weather permitting, on Sunday, October 23, on Warren's
property, Marshalls Road, Ohakune and all members and potential members are welcome. Contact Mrs E. Cooper. Ph 58-466 for details.
