Turoa not incapable of right
From page 10 and have paid me five weeks wages for not working for them. I would also like to thank them for the opportunity to resign rather than being sacked outright.

In reply to "Disillusioned" in last weeks Bulletin, - perhaps the best place for people such as "Disillusioned" is to be on the dole for with their attitude that is all they deserve. Sure, things are tough, but blaming past councils and Turoa for the town's ills is no better than putting your head in the sand. Just imagine Ohakune Town Centre full of ski related businesses. - For about four to five months of the year the town centre would look great with all the shops full. But endless parking problems everywhere. For the remaining seven to eight months of the year the town
centre would look like a ghetto with neglected shops, closed doors and general untidiness which would affect any remaining businesses. (Just look at Methuen). As for town versus Junction, I believe they now compliment each other and there is no detrimental effect on the town over the long summer period. In fact the Junction now has an identity which holds some pride amongst most residents in Ohakune. On closed days "Disillusioned" should actually get out and have a look at what's happening around Ohakune - and there's plenty. Horse treks, rafting, bunji jumping, discos, video shows,
movies, restaurants and lots of live shows. As for Turoa Skifields, lets hope it doesn't take Turoa the same number of years it has taken Whakapapa to get to the position they are in now. Yes, Turoa have made mistakes, but at least they are still out there and not crying on the town's shoulder about not getting any support. Ohakune is a good place to live and is not just a "Ski Town" as disillusioned may have us believe. market gardening, the Karioi Mill and the farming district are all as important to Ohakune as the skifield is. Perhaps we need to start a fund to build a huge lake or lobby government to locate New Zealand's first casino in Ohakune to give us all year round facilities, but first lets look at what we are doing ourselves to make things better and not blame others. And "Disillusioned", you should really have signed your name.

In reply to "Disillusioned's" letter in your issue, last week, I would like to offer my support for Turoa and say that they are not totally incapable of doing what is right. I was dismissed without being given any reasons, from my job as nurse in the Turoa Ski Patrol Clinic. With m i n i m a 1 negotiations they have admitted that I was wrongfully dismissed Turn page 11
