Plunket appeal this week
Once again Plunket volunteers will soon be out in force collecting for their annual Appeal. They will arrive on most householder's doorsteps sometime between Saturday 15 to Monday, October 17, 1988. The collectors are not just there to take your donation, they will also remind you that Plunket is still very strong in this area but that they do need your support to remain strong and caring. Plunket committees are basically for fundraising, receiving donations and to ensure funds are u s e d appropriately. In the Waimarino, all the committee members are young mothers with at least one pre-school child. Together, they organise catering functions, cake stalls, fun runs, quiz nights, golf tournaments, coffee mornings/evenings, the list goes on. Those interested in helping on the committee or just occasionally can ask the Plunket Nurse for a contact number. Joining the local Plunket committee is a recognised way for young mothers to meet others in a similar situation. Plunket needs help as our committee numbers always need a boost and more people means less work for each member. Mother support Groups are being set up by the Plunket Nurse for mothers with similar aged babies. After a couple of months the mothers take over the running of the group.
