Steam trains to visit
The Ohakune Volunteer Fire Brigade will play a part in an historic trip from Auckland to Christchurch by two steam locomotives in mid-October. Officials from the Glenbrook Vintage
Railway have approached the brigade to be on hand to water the two locomotives and a tanker wagon when they pass through the township on their way to Wellington on October 15. The trains will pass
through Ohakune o n their way back to Auckland on October 30 and will be rcfilled by the brigade once again. The journey is being named Steamtrek '88 and will be one of nosTurn page 2
Steam visit
From page 1 talgia for those involved. The locomotives will be the first of their kind to make the journey along the Main Trunk Line since its electrification earlier this year. Chief Fire Officer with the Ohakune Brigade Max Martin, says it is not the first time they have been called upon to perform such a duty. The steam locomotives will take o n anywhere between 6000-8000 gallons of water at their refilling stop in Ohakune, according to Mr Martin.
