GOAT CULLERS MOVE IN

Two Department of Conservation-employed goat cullcrs moved into the John Coull hut 70 kilometrcs upriver from Pipiriki on Monday last week, for a month's culling in the Whanganui National Park. The men will serve as shooters-cum-hut wardens for the period in an effort to reduce numbers of wild goats in the area. Pipiriki Conservation Officer Dennis McDonnell says the hunters have provisions to last until mid-October and will be responsible for collccting hut fecs during their stay. In rcccnt months, the population of wild goats has bcen on the increase in the park due to Govemmcnt cut-backs in funding in that area.
