Action called for bad corner
Concerned National Park residents want immediate action to improve the intersection of State Highway 47 and the Chateau access road, to prevent future serious accidenls and fatalities. The National Roads
Board recently approved lighting for the intersection, a move that was welcomed by local rescue and first aid services, but some say that just isn't enough. The intersection has gained notoriety this ski season, with eight reported accidents. Already one up on the
entire 12 month period last year. National Park police have in the past blamed poor concentration on the part of the drivers travelling down from Whakapapa Skifield after a long day's skiing. Instead of turning at the intersection, drivers are running straight ahead through a fence.
