ONGARUE GETS FACELIFT

A popular tourist attraction and landmark in the river settlement of Pipiriki has been given a facelift. The former Wanganui river boat Ongarue that has been a dry-land attraction for more than 30 ycars, was upgraded and repainted by volunteers recently. Senior Conservation Officer Dennis McDonnell said graffitti and rust had taken their toll on the boat that was last painted in 1982. Thc Ongarue attracts hundreds of visitors to the township and is particularly popular with younger visitors, according to Mr McDonnell.
