Top league selection
Raetihi rugby league centre Allen Prince has been selected for the under 17s "Elite Squad", a junior New Zealand league team. The Elite Squad is one step away from the Junior Kiwis who tour England, Australia and Papua New Guinea next year. Allen's squad play the junior Kiwi's a number of times next year and if a player does well, he can be moved up to the juniors. Two training camps are scheduled for this year, wilh games next year. The Waiouru Bobcats, under coach Wayne Longley, is Allen's local team from which he was selected
to play representatively for his province. For selection he played in the Manawatu rep team in a tournament that saw 19 0 players vie for the 3 2 places on the two teams, the Elite Squad and the Junior Kiwis. As well as Sunday league games Allen plays wing in the Ruapehu College First Fifteen. He is a sixth form student at the college. The difference betwecn union and league is the tackling says Allen. He said in union the player runs around you, while in league they run at you and that, along with the size of many of his opposition players, is thc challenge of league.
