Top weekend the busiest
Last weekend was Whakapapa's busiest this season with over 15,000 people, the majority of them children, visiting the slopes. Fine sunny conditions enabled all facilities to operate, with no serious injuries reported. Cookie Bear made an appearance after having to postpone a visit last weekend, and delighted the younger visitors to the slopes. Other attractions included Whakapapa's annual Swensen ice cream treasure hunt with hundreds taking part in the afternoon and a dazzling fireworks display and barbecue at the Top 'O The Bruce in the evening. Officials at Turoa Skifields also reported an excellent weekend al-
though they now have a policy not to release visitor numbers. While the first weekend of the August School holidays is traditionally regarded as
the busiest, reports from moteliers and accommodation houses in the district indicate that there are still plenty of places to stay during the holidays.
