Scheduled flights to the Ruapehu Region from Auckland began this week. The service, called Ski-Bee, is run by an Auckland travel firm The New Zealand Adventure Centre in association with Great Barrier Airlines. A company spokesman said the service sees the first scheduled flights to the Ruapehu Region offered. Flights leave Auckland 7am Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday and arrive at Ward's Airstrip, Raetihi at

8.05am. The return flights leave Raetihi Wednesday Saturday and Sunday at 5pm. The operators say with a minimum of four people they will also fly outside the scheduled times. A return flight costs $199 and one way $139. The c o m p a n y spokesman said they had decided to set up the service this year despite the season being well under way. He said they will run it this year and next year's ski season as a trial period.
