Ohakune Karioi U19's

Ohakune Karioi Under 19's rugby team backs put in their best 1988 performance, in windy and very wet ground conditions on Saturday. After 20 minutes Ohakune settled in and played the right type of rugby. Vallance kicked high from a scrum, then Marton Athletic mis-handled and Grant Barrett took the ball at full pace and scored under the posts. Mark Donghi converted. Ohakune were back on attack and should have scored after several scrums close to the Marton Athletic line. G. Barrett

was to score again wide out after Dallas Waara from the left wing came into the back line and ' presented him the ball and the gapOhakune forwards lost their grip on the game for a long period. They became too loose and the backs suffered with poor handling trying to run the ball. With 10 minutes to go Ohakune got their act together again and after some good scrumming and driving Lance Whale went over for a try. Mark Donghi on the right wing scored in the corner after chasing a good kick from G. Barrett. Full time score was 30-6 for Ohakune-Karioi.
