OHAKUNE MOUNTAIN ROAD CONTROL SETTLED

Administering the Ohakune Mountain Road has been delegated to the Department of Conservation by the Waimarino District Council. The Department will control the road, deciding when to place chain restrictions and when to close the road, until December 31 1988. The council made the decision after hearing that the Department would make every endeavour to keep within the $40,000 budgeted by the council. Earlier the Department of Conservation had said the cost of administering the ski field road could go as high as $50,628, but that savings had already been made with the late arrival of low level snowfalls.
