Ten years of fine art awards

The Ohakune Art Awards for 1988 mark the tenth anniversary of what has become one of the country's most prestigious regional art awards. Open to North Island

artists resident between Levin in the south and Hamilton in the north and exhibiting work in oils, water colour and other media, the show now attracts many artists of established reputation.

The exhibition has grown steadily from its inception in 1978 and it is expected that in this, its anniversary year, upwards of 200 entries will be received and be on show at the Ohakune Club during the week September 512. Generous private sponsorship enables substantial awards to be made in a variety of media. In addition to the $2000 Premier Award, best entries in oil, water colour, other media and portraiture attract individual $500 prizes. There is also an award for resident

Waimarino district artists. Schedules are available through public libraries and information centres or may be obtained directly from the Convenor of the Ohakune Art Awards, 49 Arawa Street, Ohakune. Increasingly a highlight of the central North Island winter season, the Ohakune Art Awards have become an established feature in the life of the town.
