RANGATAUA SCHEME TENDER BELOW ORIGINAL ESTIMATES

A tender $71,000 below the estimated cost of the Rangataua Sewerage Scheme has been received by the Waimarino District Council. Twelve tenders were received at last week's Works and Reserves Committee meeting for the construction job, which is to be completed by January 31, 1989. The lowest tender was from the Ministry of Works and Development, for $273,302.94 which the committee recommended to full council to accept. This was subject to council engineers Payne Sewell Ltd discussing the contract with the tenderers to ensure certain conditions were met. The highest tender was for $558,349, from a party that was not named at the meeting. "You would expect very competitive tenders in the current (economic) climate," said Payne Sewell's Graeme Young.
