Netball history
New Zealand net-
ballers were even smarter than the Aussies in the old days. Can you imagine a netball umpire shinnying up the goal post to retrieve the ball? In the early days in Australia, the goalpost net was only open at the top. If the umpire didn't have a ladder handy, she had t o climb the post! The New Zealanders had a different version. In the early 1900's their goalposts were a washing basket on a pole. Another pole was used to tilt the basket and release the ball.
