TEN YEARS CELEBRATION FOR TUROA TUMBLERS
Turoa Tumbler's mascot Press-Up Pete had his tenth birthday party Saturday July 2. Coinciding with his birthday was the celebration of the tenth anniversary of the Turoa Tumblers gymnastic club. June 23 1978 was the actual formation date of the club. Many of the 100 present members and about 25 past members of the club celebrated on the Saturday. Past members took part in a gymnastics session "to remind them of the things their bodies used to be able to do," according to club president Glyn Hubbard A group photograph was taken of those who lasted the distance. The birthday party for the polar bear mascot Press Up Pete followed, which the younger members of the club enjoyed. Many past members were suitably embarrassed watching videos of their old performances. The earliest tape was from 1981. In the evening a reunion dinner was enjoyed at the Sunbeam Lodge.
