COLONEL ON REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL

Colonel Brett Bestic has been asked to join the Wanganui Regional Development Council and has accepted. He was asked because of his interest and influence in the region as well as his experience as commander of the Army Training Group at Waiouru. Development Council chairman Bill Peach said the Army budget is such that it has a big influence on development in the region. Col Bestic was appointed by the council while the other members were appointed by the govemment. The council is responsible to the Minister of regional Development David Butcher. A fund of $720,000 for job creation projects is administered by the Wanganui RDC. The scheme covering this fund was announced last month and already the council has received many enquiries. On Sunday July 10 a planning meeting will be held by the council at Beechers Lodge in Ohakune. The group will look around the army camp, meet with some local identities, lunch at the Turoa ski field and visit the Karioi Pulp Mill.
