Driving course run again
Three or more applicants are needed if a second defensive driving course is to be held in the Waimarino at the end of the month. This is on the advice of Tarumarunui De-fen-sive Driving Instructor Graham Dead-man who made a trip earlier in the year to conduct the first defensive driving course in the region. The course is normally held over a four day period but here will be held on just one
day, at the Ohakune Primary School. One of the successful applicants from the first course, Raewyn Pearson, described it as tiring but highly informative. Mrs Pearson is currently involved in training as an instructor and once qualified plans to hold regular defensive driving courses in the Waimarino. The cost of e a c h course is $75 - an increase in price since last time. The price in-
crease covers freight of teaching aides and sets of modules that each applicant gets to keep at the end of the course. While no practical study is involved, applicants receive a full day's classroom tuition on a host of topics including recognising driving hazards, quick thinking at the scene of accidents and general tips on driving defensively. New regulations state that holders of taxi
driver's licences are required by law to sit the course. Holders of normal drivers licences must have held a provisional licence for at least six months before taking the course.
