Lions raise $3000 for Brigade
Profits from a recent auction for Raetihi Fire Brigade run by Ruapehu Lions reached almost $3000. Last week the Bulletin
reported that Rotary held an auction in the produce shed at the A&P showgrounds in Raetihi. The auction was in fact run by Ruapehu
Lions, to raise money for the purchase of rescue equipment for use by the Raetihi Fire Brigade. While contribution items for auction were
slow in coming Lions, assisted by members of the brigade and auctioneers from Elders Pastoral, managed to sell most if not all of the items on hand.
Extra money was raised through firewood saies in the week following the auction taking the total to over $3000. Raetihi Volunteer Fire Brigade Chief Fire Officer Alex Weir, said the brigade plans to buy a pair of hand-held radios with the proceeds. The radios will b e similar to those purchased by Waimarino Hospital last year. Mr Weir said the radios will be invaluable at the scenes of fires and accidents for improved communication between firemen. In the instance of a civil defence emergency, they will provide essential communication between points of contact, for example the Fire Brigade and Civil Defence Headquarters at the District Council office in Ohakune.
