CASE OF THE FALLEN LIZARD SNATCHER
You might think lizard-keeping is a passive, innocuous pastime. Not so. It's an adventure in the true sense of the word if you're anything like one Waimarino herpetologist who risks life and limb almost every weekend. John Greenwood's latest exploit took place in Auckland at the weekend when he was on yet another lizard-saving exercise in a patch of bush on the North Shore. Last time John fell off a small cliff. This time he fell down again, tried to break his fall and speared his hand on a manuka stick. John had to be treated at North Shore's public hospital and is still receiving medical attention here for blood-poisoning. Needless to say, our brave lizardman will survive. And so did his lizard, the 56th in his collection.
