Subdivision approved
A town planning hearing was held June 8 to hear Rangataua property developer Paul Scarfs application to subdivide a section in Mangawhero Terrace, Ohakune. Mr Scarf applied to create one section fronting the terrace with the balance of the 885 square metre section to be amalgamated with one of the adjoining lots. The committee heard that M r Scarfs intention is to amalgamate the lot with a Tyne Street section which he is negotiating to'buy. Because the land is not used for residential purposes and is in a tourist development zone the planners say it is not necessary to
have road frontage for the small rear block. The applicant's surveyors suggested the smaller lot be subject to a voluntary amalgamation with an adjoining lot presently owned by Mr Scarf. Some councillors at the hearing were concerned that the applicant's plans to buy the Tyne St section may not eventuate, which would cause legal problems for the council who had approved the creation of a land locked section. Cr Errol Sue asked why the committee was trying to predict the applicant's future, addfing that if Mr Scarf tried to sell the lot as defined he would have to provide access. The committee re-
solved to approve the subdivision subject to conditions including that the lot be subject to the voluntary amalgamation with Mr Scarf's neighbouring section in Mangawhero Terrace.
