RAL STAFF TRAINED FOR SKIER RELATIONS

All the staff of Ruapehu Alpine Lifts have undergone an intensive two week training programme to prepare them for the 1988 season. The first week, for managers and supervisors, covered supervision skills, staff and guest relations, and was conducted by American ski industry consultant Cathy Bernhard. Ms Bernhard travels to New Zealand each autumn to conduct courses for the Coronet Peak, Remarkables and Whakapapa ski areas. Her high powered American style of teaching has had the desired effect, according to Scott Lee, Marketing Manager for RAL. "There's a very positive feeling at Whakapapa at present. The entire staff are motivated and committed to providing top quality service to the skiers" he said. The second week of training was for all lift operators and ticketing staff and consisted of a familiarisation with the National Park, emergency procedures and on-mountain job skills training with special emphasis on skier relations.
