COUNCIL ASSURANCE FOR CARROT GROWERS

Members of the Waimarino District Council Works and Reserves Committee assured full council at their meeting last week that there was no intention to force carrot growers to quit the Ohakune mains water supply. The Committee recently discussed the planned Ohakune water treatment system with the growers, asking them if there was any way they could reduce water consumption in their carrot washing sheds. "There's no way we are trying to pick on the growers," said Deputy Mayor Bruce Thompson.
