Under 19's take Kaierau

Ohakune-Karioi were straight on attack in their game against Kaierau on Saturday. From the kick-off the forwards gained a good supply of ball.

Very strong cross winds made it difficult for the backs to run the ball on two or three occasions. OhakuneKarioi forwards came close to score but for the want of a better

finish. Kaierau were first to score against the run of play and from a mistake seen far too often this year. No one wanted to take a high ball and it was kicked on and eventually a Kaierau player scored under the posts. The conversion was missed. Kaierau kept the pressure on Ohakune-Karioi until 10 minutes to half time where OhakuneKarioi lifted their game and after some constant pressure and several good scrums on the Kaierau line Shane Philips scored close to the post. Neil Fredericksen converted. With half time almost up a scrum close to the line saw Vallance going the blind and Shane Sutton scoring wide out taking the score to 104 to Ohakune-Karioi. After half time the game see-sawed for 20 minutes with neither side dominating. With

15 minutes to go the Ohakune-Karioi forwards started to win plenty of good ball and G. Taylor was soon to score a good try on the left wing beating several players on the way. Ohakune-Karioi missed out on scoring four or five tries in the last 10 minutes with players losing o r knocking the ball on over the Kaierau line. The Kaierau fullback had an excellent game taking every ball coming his way and always found touch with interest. Final score was Ohakune-Karioi 14 to Kaierau 4. Players of the Day for Ohakune-Karioi were Shane Sutton and Shane Philips. Ohakune-Karioi play Wanganui Technical College Old Boys next Saturday at the Wanganui Racecourse.
