Council to sell extra property

Ohakune is to be the administration centre for the Waimarino District Council with the main works depot situated in Raetihi.

Recognising an overall surplus of office building and cramped working conditions for administration staff, the Waimarino District Council resolved, at its meeting on Wednesday June 22 1988, to set in motion several initiatives which it is expected will provide more efficient service

for the district . of Waimarino. The Council currently has three offices and three depots. Council will divest itself o f property so that the district will have its administration centre in Ohakune with a service centre in Raetihi. The district's Works Depot will be situated in the

former County depot in Raetihi with a subsidiary depot i n Ohakune. Deputy Mayor, Bruce Thompson, said: "Rationalising the District Council's offices and depots will enable Council to free up other buildings and land for sale or lease, the proceeds of which will be channelled'into upgrading facilities particularly in the Raetihi Works depot and into expanding office facili-

ties in Ohakune. I would stress that Council had made no decision at this p o i n t which land or buildings would be sold or leased. "As part of the process of amalgamation the Government have put in place the Incentive Grant S c h e m e which will provide up to $30,000 towards works depots and $50,000 towards office accommodation. Council will be taking advantage of both of these grants as part of the decision made last Wednesday. "At the meeting Councillors said that they had seen the facilities at the works depot and the cramped work-

ing space for the office staff and believe that Council is moving in a positive direction," added Councillor Thompson. The District Manager has been asked to explore all options of selling or leasing all buildings and land o n which current offices and depots are situated, with the exception of the Parapara Road Depot and the Ohakune Office. Said District Manager, John Murrihy: "Council have given me a wide brief but at this point I am focusing on the possibility of leasing the Raetihi Administration Centre for office Tuai page 2

Council is also looking at the possibility of selling the former County office in Seddon Street, Raetihi. "I would obviously be interested to hear from anyone who would be interested in any or all of these properties."
