Celtic takes college
Ruapehu College soccer team played in a tough game on Saturday June 10 at Waiouru against Celtic. The College could have come through the game with a draw, but were unfortunately put back twice due to errors by officials and the away team. The first instance was when a shot blocked by defender Keir Whipp rePlunket golf This year's Raetihi Plunket's Golf Day was deemed a resounding success by organiscrs. The number of entrants was well up on last year and profits totalled over $800. Results: Best nett N e i 1 Cranston, runner-up J. Bumett. Ladies Goldie Fraser, runner-up Barbara Dempsey. bounded onto his hand and Celtic converted from the spot to g o one up. The second instance was when a Celtic defender delibertely handled in his area. The referee saw it as outside, so Celtic escaped with a free kick. The pressure was on Ruapehu throughout the first half but they should have equalised a couple of times. Celtic went two up in the second half. A right-wing cross found a Celtic forward at the near post who planted the ball past keeper Dean Drayton. Duane Dixon came back with a brilliant goal after 75 minutes. His powerful shot from outside the area was too hard for the keeper to push out and Ruapehu were back in the game. Seven minutes from time Celtic scored from another controversial incident. The Ruapehu defence laid back after seeing three attackers offside, but the referee let play go on which resulted in Celtic breaking free to win by 3:1.
