Victory for Under 19's
Quick thinking and slick tries went to make up OhakuneKarioi's Under 19's rugby victory over Wanganui Priates on Saturday. They played at Ohakune in ideal playing conditions with no wind. " Ohakune Karioi had the sun at their backs from the kick-off and were straight on attack. Mark Donghi scored a very good try from his own kick ahead after a back movement broke down. Neil Fredrickson converted. Damian Brider was next to score with a strong barging run down the right wing. Half time saw Ohakune-Karioi ahead 16-nil. For 20 minutes of the second half Pirates were disputing possession and backs tackling well. With 10 minutes to full time Dan Te Huia scored wide out after quick thinking from a penalty close to Pirates line. Half back O.B. Vallance was next to score with a slick try on the blind side after several scrums close to the Pirates' line. Pirates came back with a vengeance and just before full time scored in the corner. Final score OhakuneKarioi 24 Wanganui Pirates 4. Neil Fredrickson was named Player of the Day, with good games from S. Sutton, D . Howe and D. Brider. Ohakune-Karioi Under 19 travel to Marton next Saturday to play Athletic.
