MAORI TOURISM MEETING

The Maori Tourism Association is to hold its inaugural general meeting in Rotorua on June 10-11 1988. Up to four representatives from the Maungarongo Marae are to attend the meeting. The Association represents Maori involvement in tourism and plans to provide a unified voice on Maori input in decision making to government and industry bodies. Embracing the many tourism issues of concern relating to the Maori participation within the New Zealand travel industry is one of the aims of the association. In partnership, the Maori Affairs Department and the New Zealand Tourist and Publicity Department have been collectively assisting the Maori Tourism Interim Board in the formation of the Maori Tourism Association. The association will work alongside the New Zealand Tourist and Publicity Department's Maori liaison unit in the interests of developing and encouraging Maori involvement in tourism.
