SNORING SETS WOMAN OFF IN HUFF ON RUAPEHU
A New Plymouth woman was told to "take a hike" after an argument over snoring on Sunday and took it literally, leading to a search and rescue operation involving 32 people and a helicopter nearly being deployed. Cath Garret was staying in a hut at Whakapapa village on Mt Ruapehu and had been upset with other members of her party who "snored too loudly and made too much noise" on Friday and Saturday nights. "She got into a huff and took off up the mountain to the ski field," said Senior Constable Jim Gosman of National Park. The woman stayed in a hut on the ski field on Sunday night. Police and would-be rescuers were very concemed about Ms Garret's safety during her absence, especially as Sunday night's tempefature dropped to minus seven degrees Celsius on the mountain. Ms Garret broke every rule in the hook by wandering off alone, she was "absolutely irresponsible" said Constable Gosman.
