Top soccer coach visits
New Zealand All Whites soccer coach Kevin Fallon was in the Waimarino last week to deliver four days' coaching instruction at a local level. Twelve soccer players from Army Training Group, Waiouru and the Waimarino were involved in the intensive training course. Participants received one-on-one instruction on the principles of play, theory of coaching, game rules and practical ballhandling skills. The preliminary coaching course run .by the NZ Football Association was aimed at level two coaching in New Zealand. Kevin Fallon was highly impressed with the facilities of Waiouru and the standard of the group. "The standard of participants
was very high for a preliminary course. Everyone was very enthusiastic and self-disci-plined." Mr Fallon said he passed through the same system back in 1974 at the age of 23. The course he said, brought to light a lack of confidence on his part and since then he has worked on improving in that area. At 30, he is a national coach and an internationally acclaimed instructor. As well as instructing adults, he also coaches youngsters with the Centres of Excellence scheme run in New Zealand, of which he is the co-ordinator. The scheme is a move to aid the development of budding footballers. Mr Fallon's area of responsibility includes south of Auckland to Tongariro.
