THREAT OF INJUNCTION FROM EX-COUNCILLOR

Former Waimarino County Council member John Martin is threatening to take out an injunction to stop the striking of rates. He told the Bulletin last week he felt the new District Council was denying ratepayers their rights. "Ratepayers of the Waimarino District have not had a chance to consider this year's rate increases," he said. "It's morally wrong." He claimed the council had camoflagued rate increases by not explaining the effects of revaluation and increases in the uniform charge. However, Mr Martin appears to have dropped his threat because there was no news of an injunction when the Bulletin went to press at 5 p.m. yesterday. Today on page 3 Mr Martin's argument with the council is fully reported along with a reply from the District Manager. Our "Rates Debate" feature concludes today with another story from the recent estimates meeting.
