NO SMOKING SAYS PEGGY

Smoking was banned by Councillor Peggy Frew at a District Council committee meeting last week. She asked Councillor John Compton if he would stop smoking because it had been banned earlier by the Ohakune Borough Council. Though he replied that he did not know of that rule still applied, Cr Compton put out his cigarette. Later in the meeting Councillor Errol Sue (a smoker) was overheard to say that the district council could make its own rules on smoking, and as far as he was concerned he would smoke if he wanted to.
