Under 19's have lucky win

Ohakune-Karioi Under19s beat Waverley by 17 points to 6 on Saturday. With transport problems and players not keen to travel, it was a credit to the bare 15 who played to have won. With a strong wind at their backs in the first half Ohakune-Karioi got off to a good start with a penalty, a try by Neil Fredericksen and a conversion in the first 15 minutes. Waverley came back into the game towards the end of the first half.

Playing into the strong wirid in the second half, OhakuneKarioi tightened up their game in both backs and forwards and kept Waverley out. A try by Mark Donghi after a good handling effort by the backs, followed soon after with a dropped goal, saw the game wrapped up. Ohakune-Karioi backs had the Waverley try line at their mercy, but an intercept saw the Waverley centre score under the posts at the other end.

Ohakune-Karioi tackling was not of the high standard of last week.

Michael Wills was named Player of the Day with a good scrumming and driving display.

Ohakune-Karioi play Utiku Old Boys at Ohakune next Saturday.
