So you know the rugby law?
The Law: Law 25 (2) On Side: Player made On Side by action of opposing team. The Situation: An off-side player from the attacking team is waiting outside the 10 metre circle and the defending player waiting to receive the ball from a kick knocks the ball forward, however
immediately recovers the ball. The attacking player moves inside the 10 metre circle. The Referee's ruling is: a. No offence has occurred by the attacking team. b. The attacking team1 is in breach of the 10 metre circle law. c. No action of the defending team can
place the attacking team on-side. The Referee Will: a. Stop play. Offer the defending team a penalty from where the kick was taken or a scrum at the place where the ball alighted. b. Play advantage to the attacking team and if none is forthcoming award the attacking team a scrum at the
place where the ball was knocked on. c. Award the defending team a penalty at the place where the attacking team member entered the 10 metre circle. The Answer: An off-side player in general play waiting outside the 10m Circle is put on-side if the player waiting to re-
ceive the ball from a kick knocks the ball forward, even though the ball is subsequently recovered. No offence has occurred by the attacking team. Play advantage and or award a scrum to the attacking team at the place where the ball was knocked on. (See 'Consolidation of Rulings' page 26 (3)).
