Run biggest yet
The 1988 Around the Mountains Relay will be the biggest and best yet, if advanced team applications are any indication. New Zealand's biggest relay has reached such proportions that Auckland's Sunfresh marathon is cancelled this year due to a date clash. Instead at least five teams registered for the marathon will be travelling to Waiouru to compete in the Around the Mountains Relay on November 5.
The run is the twelfth annual relay to be hosted by Army Training Group, Waiouru. Officials anticipate at least 40 team entries and a number of individual entries for this year's run. Already two ultra-distance entries have been received. Events include a 100 mile relay for teams of 10 runners, a 100 mile solo endurance race, a two by 50 mile relay and new this year, a four by 25 mile relay. Solo runners and teams compete in a number of grades.
