A QUICK READ ON WAIMARINO NEWS TONGARIRO NATIONAL PARK MANAGEMENT PLAN DUE OUT SOON
The management plan for Tongariro National Park has been completed, ready for approval from the National Parks and Reserves Authority and the Minister of Conservation, Helen Clark. Work on the plan has taken more than two years, has involved two draft management plans and has been the subject of nearly 100 submissions from park users, including the two major ski fields, Turoa and Whakapapa. Once the plan has been approved by the minister and the authority all park users will be bound by it. The authority can recommend changes to the plan. The plan is divided into five sections: Objectives and Policies for Tongariro National Park; Whakapapa Skifield Management Plan; Turoa Skifield Management Plan; Tukino Skifield Management Plan; Whakapapa Village Management Plan. When implemented it will be the first major review of the centurv old nark.
