Hepatitis B round again

The community response to the first round of the Hepatitis B vaccination campaign for preschoolers in the Wanganui area has been very pleasing.

Seventy-eight percent of eligible children received their first doses of vaccine. The second round of the campaign, organised by the Wanganui Area Health

Board, is due to commence the week of April 18-22. It will not be too late to join; the programme if the first date was missed, therefore parents are encouraged to come along to the next clinic to be held in their area. V accinations are offered to all children under the age of five years, which includes babies born before February 29 this year. If children seem unwell on the day of the clinic, parents are advised to bring them along to the clinic and discuss with the doctor present whether or not to have the vaccination that day. Parents are encouraged to take their children's Health Development Record books to the clinics to enable staff to record the v accinations. The clinics have a very cheerful atmosphere with stickers and balloons along with videos for the children, with friendly staff and people from the community assisting. P. O'Connor Area Co-ordinator Hepatitis B Vaccination Campaign
