PIPIRIKI SEWERAGE COSTS MORE
Waimarino County Council is undecided as to which, if any, of the tenders received for the Pipiriki Sewerage Scheme to accept. The council held a special meeting on Wednesday March 30, two days before it was to cease to exist, to decide the successful tender for the project. Tenders closed on March 29. Five tenders were received for the project but one was withdrawn. A 20 per cent increase in the prices tendered over the original estimates was the reason given for the council not making a decision. "I feel we would be irresponsible if we accepted any of these tenders," said Chairman Con Heinold. "There could be an uproar in Pipiriki if we did." He said the new District Council would need to consult the other participants in the project before making a decision. The councillors heard it would cost $29,000 over estimates if the lowest tender was accepted. The estimate of the cost of the scheme was originally $136,000. County Engineer Mr Don Sattler told the councillors that the tender documents stipulated that market fluctuations would apply to the project. In explaining this he said cost increases would be passed on to council but with no mark up added by the contractor. Councillor Bennett moved that tenders be held over pending consultation with the contributing parties to the scheme and that the tender documents be referred to the scheme consultants and any points needing clarification be resolved. The motion was seconded by Cr McCoubrie and carried. — m
