Three riders area's ambassadors

Three Waimarino Pony Club riders have proved to be very good ambassadors for their club and area. They are Maria Fredericksen, age 16, riding Delegate; Rodney McCoubrie, age 13, riding Piccadilly; and Paula Greenwood, age 14, riding Super Nova. Maria Fredericksen started riding at six years old and has represented Ruapehu College artd Wanganui Girls College in the interschool team. In 1986 she won the Karioi Endurance 20km ride under 16 years and also the local rider prize. She has three /champion jumping prizes to her credit. This season she has also won F.E.I. and Waimarino Show, novice and C grade F.E.I. at Otairi Sports. Maria enjoys one day eventing and has several placings to her credit. She is a member of the Raetihi Pony Club and is also trained by Pauline Mowat in show jumping and Julie Pearson in dressage. Rodney McCoubrie brought his pony Piccadilly in for work in August for the start of the season. From September onwards he has attended combined training days, dressage and showjumping, pony club rallies and has done courses with National Pony Club instructors. He has competed at A&P shows, jumping days and many district sports meeting. Rodney has also competed at the one day events at Fordell, Sanson, Taihape and Ongarue. At Karioi Sports Rodney upgraded Piccadilly to 'B' by winning the Open Pony International and One Round Stakes. At Owhango he was placed second in the Champion Pony Jump, first in the Eye Opener, second in Pony Hunter and second Open Pony International. Rodney is a keen competitor, a member of the Raetihi Pony Club and" has been riding since he was nine. Paula Greenwood has been riding for seven years but on Super Nova only since September 1987. They have only competed six times so their successes are very creditable and the future looks bright for this combination. This season Paula has

won on the six c o m p e t ing days: Maiden Pony and Local Pony at Waimarino A&P Show. Best Girl Rider and Low Jump Karioi Sports. Open Pony, Best Rider, Eye Opener Jump, Champion Pony and Champion Junior Pony Jump at Owhango Sports plus Best Rider under 1 7 years at Makirikiri Sports. They have had numerous other placings. Paula belongs to Raetihi Pony Club and is in full time training with Julie Pearson. Super Nova is a pure bred Arab purchased twelve months ago by Julie and Robin Pearson, at that time both newly gelded and broken in.
