Ruapehu College athletes at Wanganui
Ruapehu College pupils competed in the Wanganui Secondary Schools Athletics held recently. Most pupils performed very well in the heats and many made it through to the finals. Third former Tui Allan ran in the open girls
3,000 metres and was placed second overall from the whole Wanganui region. Suzie Mcllroy: 3rd 100m senior girls sprint, 2nd girls open triple jump, 1st senior girls high jump (1.5m),
3rd senior girls long jump beaten by sister Janine for 2nd place. Janine Mcllroy: 4th 100m senior girls sprint, 2nd senior girls long jump. Regan Sue: 5th intermediate boys triple jump, 3rd intermediate boys high jump, 4th
intermediate boys long jump. Cheryl Hinana: 3rd intermediate girls 200m, 4th intermediate girls long jump. Sheryl Mateara: 4 th intermediate girls discus. Shelley Phillips: 1st junior girls discus, 4th
open girls javelin. All other competitors were senior girls. Allan Prince: 5 th 200m final, 3rd senior boys shot put, 4th senior boys triple jump. Jason Langdon: 4 th 200m final. The intermediate girls relay team of Cindy
Langdon, Cheryl Hinana, Pauline Taley and Barbara Baird took third place in the straight final. A great effort was rttade by S h a n e Whittleston who competed against much bigger intermediates in 1500m and 3000m.
