Power bill refund

King Country Electric Power Board customers are in for an unusual and pleasant surprise in the near future. The General Manager of KCEPB presented the board with a draft resolution last week which called for consumers to be given a 12 per cent refund on their electricity bills for the last fi-

nancial year. The refund will come in the form of a credit to customers' accounts. The resolution came about because of the board's 1986 decision to aim for a break-even trading result for the year, followed b y higher than expected interest yielded by the board's reserve and cash investments. In a letter to the board Mr Sanders said possi-

ble amalgamation and/or reorganisation of the industry could cause the dissipation of the reserves built up by the operating surplus to other districts or organisations. The operating surplus is estimated to be about $1.04 million. Giving consumers a refund would reduce this to a tax paid surplus of $124,000.
