Workman elected mayor
Mayoral candidate Garrick Workman romped home with a 407 majority in the Waimarino District Council elections on Saturday. Yesterday Mr Workman said the result had started to hit home and he was realising the work ahead. "There's a job to b e done and I'm looking forward to getting stuck in," said Mr Workman. "It's up to us as a team to become a untied and efficient council," he said. He said he was pleased with the other candidates elected onto council. "It's a good mix of people, it's a shame that some good people missed out though," he said. "Some of the other mayoral candidates should be there,
they would have some good input to make to council." He would not be drawn on what was the first task facing the council which comes into being on April 1 . "I've got several concems, once we're round the table we can discuss them," said Mr Work-
man. One major concern he did reveal was the government's review of local authorities and the thTeat it posed to councils such as the Waimarino District Council. The new councillors are: Jeremy Treblecock, Hukaroa Ward; Doug
Bennett and David Griffiths, Manganui Ward; Bruce Thompson, Errol Sue, Ellen Gould, Ohakune Ward; Ken Summerhays, John Compton, Tom Punch, Raetihi Ward. 71 per cent of the 2185 eligible voters in the district voted in the election.
